5-inch ZenFone 2

Asus earlier this month announced two new 5.5-inch Android smartphones: the ZenFone 2, and the ZenFone Zoom. In case you find 5.5-inch screens too big, Asus will reportedly also have a 5-inch ZenFone 2 model, though the same can't be said about the ZenFone Zoom.

According to Taiwanese website Sogi, the 5-inch ZenFone 2 could be released shortly after the 5.5-inch one, which is expected to hit shelves around the world starting March. While the 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 will have variants with up to 4 GB of RAM, it's not clear if that's also the case when it comes to the 5-inch device. Anyway, we're expecting the smaller ZenFone 2 to be visually similar to the 5.5-inch smartphone, while sharing some of its features, including:

Android 5.0 Lollipop with Zen UI, LTE connectivity, 13 MP rear camera, 5 MP front-facing camera, and a quad-core 64-bit Intel Atom Z3580 processor.

The 5.5-inch ZenFone 2 will be sold for prices starting at about $200, which means we should expect the 5-inch model to be even cheaper. Last year, Asus released ZenFones with 4-inch, 5-inch, and 6-inch screens, all of which were well received, so we're not surprised to see the company wanting to keep its strategy unchanged in this regard.

There are no images to show the 5-inch Asus ZenFone 2. The handset pictured in this article is the 5.5-inch model.
